Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

165 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to the planned developments for Greencastle Harbour, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23877/01]

Responsibility for development of Greencastle Harbour is a matter primarily for Donegal County Council.

A comprehensive site investigation was completed at Greencastle in May 2001. This is an essential prerequisite to any development's proceeding.

A major options study carried out by consultants on behalf of the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources and of the county council was completed in June 2001, following which a report has been prepared setting out a master plan for the future development of the harbour. Preparation of the report included extensive local consultation with the relevant interested parties. The report is with Donegal County Council for consideration.
