John Bruton

Question:

79 Mr. J. I propose to take Questions Nos. 47 and 79 together

Since the incidents in the US, the National Civil Aviation Security Committee chaired by a senior official of my Department has convened seven special meetings to date, the first of which took place on the day following the incidents in the United States.

I am aware that the committee has been reviewing existing aviation security procedures for Irish aviation in the light of the current security situation, strengthened existing procedures and is examining specific security proposals.

It is not the practice on security grounds to disclose details of any aviation security measures that have been or will be put in place at airports but I wish to assure Deputies that appropriate measures are being taken to safeguard civil aviation in Ireland.
