Vol. 542 No. 3

Written Answers. - Charitable Status.

Pat Carey

Question:

60 Mr. P. Carey asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will make arrangements to allow a group (details supplied) in Dublin 11 to have charitable status to put in place a short-term overdraft facility to conduct its day to day operations. [24514/01]

The question of whether a company is given charitable status is a matter for the Revenue Commissioners.

The memorandum of association of the company referred to includes a provision that if the company wishes to borrow money it must have the permission of the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and of the Minister for Finance.

As I have received only the application for permission to borrow with the parliamentary question put down by the Deputy, I have not had an opportunity to consider the matter. I will arrange for an examination of the matter at the earliest opportunity.
