Vol. 542 No. 3

Written Answers. - Aer Rianta.

David Stanton

Question:

93 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on the future of Aer Rianta and the development plans of Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports; her further views on comments reportedly made by a person (details supplied) at the Commission of Aviation Regulation recently in which this person urged a re think on the future development of the three Aer Rianta airports; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24545/01]

On the future of Aer Rianta, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 34 tabled by Deputy Stagg which I answered earlier. Aer Rianta's proposals in relation to the three State airports are in the first instance a matter for Aer Rianta, which has statutory responsibility to manage, operate and develop the airports and to provide such facilities and services as it considers necessary for aircraft and passengers.

My Department has already asked Aer Rianta for a considered view on the implications of the Aviation Regulator's recent determination of maximum airport charges for the future development of the company. The Deputy will be aware that Aer Rianta has decided to seek a judicial review of the regulator's determination. Further comment on the future development of the three State airports would be speculative and premature at this stage.
