Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jackie Healy-Rae

Question:

212 Mr. Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will fast-track the provision of Milltown Presentation secondary school, County Kerry; if his attention has been drawn to the delays that have held up the provision of this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24747/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the building unit of my Department recently approved the stage 3 submission for this project. The design team is currently preparing the Stage 4 submission, detailed design, and it is expected that the documentation will be submitted by the end of the month.

The key to expediting progress in the planning and design of this project is the client only accepting from the design team that it appointed submissions that are in compliance with my Department's design team procedures.

The Deputy will appreciate that there has been a massive and unprecedented increase in the funds allocated by this Government to the schools building programme at all levels. Decisions relating to the rate of progress to construction of projects, including the school referred to by the Deputy, will be taken in light of the allocation to be made for school building purposes in the forthcoming Estimates.
