Vol. 542 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

123 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money which has been allocated and spent to date by his Department in each of the BMW counties under the national development plan. [24628/01]

I understand that the Deputy has put down a similar question to other Ministers and their responses will indicate NDP expenditure in the areas for which each Minister is responsible. As Minister for Finance, my Department is responsible for the direct allocation and spending of funds under the technical assistance operational programme and also the peace programme. The amount spent on each of these programmes is not currently available at county levels. Therefore the amounts I will give are for the BMW region.

The NDP-CSF Technical Assistance Operational Programme 2000-2006 makes a total allocation in 2000 and 2001 of 1.6 million. This technical assistance operational programme has spent 0.16 million from 1 January 2000 to 30 June 2001 in the BMW region. It should be acknowledged that spending on technical assistance traditionally accelerates as the programme progresses.

The NDP-CSF technical assistance allocation is based on the financial plan. As the measures under the technical assistance operational programme support the NDP-CSF on a national basis, the breakdown of expenditure is calculated according to the regional allocations in the Berlin profile.

My Department is also responsible for the allocation and spending of funds for the peace II operational programme. The peace II programme was only agreed with the European Commission this year therefore no spending has occurred on this programme to date. Spending is anticipated to begin very soon now that matters have been resolved. Currently there is ongoing expenditure under the peace I programme for the 1994-99 national development plan.
