Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Dan Neville

Question:

233 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will make a special allocation of milk quota available for distribution to members of the milk rights group. [25252/01]

I have met this group in the past and officials of my Department met them on a number of occasions, the last being early this summer.

I have indicated earlier that, notwithstanding the fact that there was no legal obligation on me to do so, I would see what could be done for certain categories of development farmers in the context of the allocation of the 11.5 million gallons of quota available under Agenda 2000.

My Department has been involved in legal consultations to establish the options that are open to me and complex issues had to be addressed in that context. These consultations are now almost concluded and I expect to be in a position to announce a decision on this matter over the coming weeks.

Michael Ring

Question:

234 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo has not received a REP scheme payment; the reason for the delay; and when payment will issue. [25265/01]

The agri-environmental plan in this case was returned to the applicant on 31 May 2001 as his 1998 sheep quota had not been reduced as required. The plan was amended and re-submitted on 3 August and has now been processed. Payment will issue to the person named within the next fourteen days.

Michael Ring
