Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dangerous Bacteria.

Tony Gregory

Question:

274 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he has taken to ensure adequate security on all laboratories and facilities where dangerous bacteria might be stored; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25243/01]

In the normal course of events the storage of biological material in laboratories under health board control is subject to strict control and security. Notwithstanding this my Department has recently written to the chief executive officer of each health board asking them to ensure that adequate security measures are in place at all laboratory facilities under their control.
