Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Nursing Staff.

Denis Naughten

Question:

303 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if the staffing level at a centre (details supplied) in County Roscommon is adequate; his plans to increase the staffing level; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25030/01]

As the Deputy is aware, the provision of health services in the Roscommon area is, in the first instance, the responsibility of the Western Health Board. I have made inquiries of the board regarding staffing levels at the Plunkett Community Nursing Unit and the board informs me that levels in the unit are adequate at present and are being constantly reviewed by the director of nursing to meet the needs of the clients and the service given. When the palliative care unit is opened, an increase in staffing levels is proposed to meet the additional needs that this service requires.
