Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard Allen

Question:

371 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will increase the level of reconstruction loan available for upgrading of houses from 80% to 100%. [25231/01]

The operation of the home purchase and improvement loans scheme is a matter for each local authority which is a lending authority for the purpose of the scheme. The regulations governing the operation of this scheme currently provide for the following maximum loan limits for improvement loans: £15,000 or 19,046 – £20,000 or 25,395 on offshore islands where the loan is secured by a mortgage on the house, and £6,000 or 7,618 where the loan is not secured. It is a matter for the individual local authorities to specify whether or not a contribution is required from the borrower. I have no proposals, at this time, to change the operation of the scheme.
