385 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the total moneys allocated under the arts and culture enhancement support scheme on a county by county basis for 2001; if any funding will be made available to a centre (details supplied) in County Monaghan and if so, when; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24898/01]
Details of the grant aid offered on a county basis under the ACCESS schemes are outlined in the following table. The Deputy will note that grants have been allocated in 21 counties. Grants may be drawn down over the period 2001-04.
The centre in question applied for ACCESS funding but unfortunately was not recommended by the independent committee established by me to assess all eligible applications. Only applications recommended by the independent committee were considered by me for the purposes of grant allocations.
A total of £36 million, 46 million, is available for the ACCESS scheme from 2001-04, but applications for grant aid of £224 million were received. Difficult decisions therefore had to be made, with many worthwhile projects having to be refused.
