Vol. 542 No. 5

Written Answers. - Court Proceedings.

Dan Neville

Question:

401 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the cost incurred to date in preparing a defence of an action (details supplied); the projected costs of the action being pursued; when the court hearings on the action are scheduled to take place; his views on whether the precedent set in the case of another person (details supplied) should be examined; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25037/01]

In the case referred to by the Deputy, legal proceedings were initiated by the member in April 2000. The costs incurred to date in defence of the action amount to £79 In relation to the projected costs to the State of the action currently being pursued, my legal advisers have advised me that the case is still at a very early stage and it is too soon to give an estimate of such costs. The case has not come to trial and there is no date or indication yet of when the case may be heard. The Deputy will appreciate that, as it is still outstanding, I cannot discuss details of the case.
