Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Enda Kenny

Question:

488 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the long-term educational requirements of a school (details supplied) in County Mayo being completed by the planning section of his Department; if this report has been completed following his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 263 of 8 May 2001; if he is concerned at the quality of the electrical installations in this school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25318/01]

The planning section of my Department has completed its examination of the long-term educational requirements of the school referred to by the Deputy and has agreed a projected enrolment with the school authorities. The building unit of my Department will shortly issue the schedule of overall accommodation based on the agreed long-term enrolment figure to the school authorities for their acceptance. The building unit of my Department has recently authorised the school authorities to appoint a consultant engineer to carry out a report in relation to the electrical installation at the school.

Donal Carey

Question:

489 Mr. D. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if the board of management of a national school (details supplied) in County Clare has requested repair works and modification to its building; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25329/01]

My Department has received an application for grant aid towards the cost of a building project at the school in question. The Deputy will appreciate that there has been a massive and unprecedented increase in the funds allocated by this Government to the schools building programme at all levels. Decisions relating to the rate of progress to construction of projects, including the school referred to by the Deputy, will be taken in the light of the allocations to be made for school building purposes in the forthcoming Estimates.
