Vol. 542 No. 6

Written Answers. - Hospitals Building Programme.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

194 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the development projects for each hospital; the nature of the projects; the stage at which these projects are; the expected completion date; the projected cost; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25489/01]

Health boards have primary responsibility for progressing hospital development projects funded by my Department, both in the acute and non-acute sectors, within their areas. While my Department monitors certain larger or medium sized projects through various planning, construction or commissioning phases, boards also undertake a wide range of smaller capital initiatives in hospitals in their areas. These include, for example, certain works relating to equipping, refurbishment, fire precautions and health and safety.

Given the range of capital developments currently under way at hospitals throughout the country, it would not be practical for me to collate all the information sought by the Deputy. Accordingly, I have written to the chief executive officer of each health board and asked them to furnish the information direct to the Deputy.
