Question:

134 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the amount of funding specifically allocated to Mayo General Hospital to deliver the service for the breast disease clinic. [27207/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 133 and 134 together.

As I advised the Deputy on 11 October 2001, the Western Health Board was allocated a sum of £1 million, 1.27 million, this year for the development of symptomatic breast disease services in line with the recommendations of the Report of the Sub-Group on the Development of Services for Symptomatic Breast Disease. The board has formulated detailed proposals for the development of services in its functional area, including services at Mayo General Hospital. These proposals have been the subject of extensive consultations between my Department and the board and my Department will be responding to the board shortly. I assure the Deputy that I will continue to work with the board to ensure a comprehensive and coherent approach to the development of symptomatic breast disease services in the region.
