Vol. 543 No. 3

Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.

Michael Ring

Question:

135 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if advertisements have been issued for orthopaedic surgeons and the necessary support staff for Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo; if so, if applications have been processed; and when it is expected that the orthopaedic unit will be opened. [27208/01]

The Western Health Board has indicated a need for three consultant orthopaedic surgeons, sup ported by three consultant anaesthetists, three consultant radiologists, nursing, paramedical and other support staff to provide an orthopaedic service in Mayo General Hospital. The board is not in a position to commence recruitment pending decisions on the level of funding available to it for the development of acute hospital services in 2002.
