Vol. 544 No. 1

Written Answers. - Information Technology Programme.

David Stanton

Question:

256 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science if every student has been given a personal e-mail address under the information technology 2000 programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28134/01]

The National Centre for Technology in Education – NCTE – which provides guidance and support to schools on technical and pedagogical issues related to the use of information and communications technology in the classroom, does not, for reasons of security, favour the introduction of school based personalised e-mail addresses for each student at primary level.

Schools at second level may decide that they wish to allocate personalised e-mail addresses to their pupils, provided that they follow the guidelines as set out by NCTE which are available on its website: http://www.ncte.ie.
