Enda Kenny

Question:

129 Mr. Kenny asked the Taoiseach the level of population in each district electoral division comprising each official Gaeltacht as recognised by the relevant Acts of Dáil Éireann and as determined at the last census of population; if he can indicate or extract from that census the percentage of population in each such townland that is deemed to be competent at speaking the Irish language; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28156/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 128 and 129 together.

The information requested by the Deputy is contained in the following table:

*part of DED/Ward.
†excluding not stated.
| combined DEDs/Wards for confidentiality.
Italic represents the full DED/Ward.
Notes:
1. The population three years of age and over is given rather than the total as the question on ability to speak the Irish language refers to this age group.
2. The county total represents the Gaeltacht part of the county. In some cases full DEDs/Wards have been given rather than just the Gaeltacht part, due to confidentiality constraints. As a result the DEDs/Wards will not always sum to the total for the county.
