Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jim Higgins

Question:

167 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Finance when a report requested by the Minister for Education and Science regarding a site for a Gaelscoil (details supplied) in County Mayo will be completed. [28153/01]

The Commissioners of Public Works act as agent on behalf of the Department of Education and Science in the acquisition of sites for new school facilities. Site proposals to meet the requirements for a new Gaelscoil facility in Westport were sought by public advertisement in May 2001 and several site options are under consideration at present. Preliminary consultations with the owners of these sites have taken place. The Office of Public Works is also engaged in a pre-planning consultation with the local authority regarding the siting of a new school facility. It is expected to complete the initial assessment of site options by the end of the year at which time Office of Public Works will forward its recommendations to the Department of Education and Science for consideration.
