Vol. 544 No. 1

Written Answers. - Occupational Therapy Services.

Denis Naughten

Question:

183 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if an occupational therapist will be appointed by the Western Health Board to service the south Roscommon area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28219/01]

The statutory responsibility for the delivery of occupational therapy services in County Roscommon rests with the Western Health Board. I have been advised by that board that the filling of the vacancy for the post of occupational therapist in County Roscommon which arose on the 13 November 2001 will be advertised within the coming weeks. The board has also advised me that the person who held the post was responsible for covering services throughout the county and not just in the south of Roscommon.

In relation to the provision of occupational therapy services generally in this area, the board has indicated that the Irish Wheelchair Association has a lead role for providing such services and receives funding from the board for such provision. I understand that the Western Health Board has been in contact with the Deputy in connection with this matter.
