Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Noel Ahern

Question:

256 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding the search for a site for a new national school for Gaelscoil Cholmcille; his views on the site which is available at the rear of the Cloisters; if the Office of Public Works report on this site has been completed; if it has been sent to the Department of Education and Science; if all technical work has been completed to allow a formal offer to be made on this site by the end of the month; if he will make every effort to purchase this site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28716/01]

The Commissioners of Public Works act as agent on behalf of the Department of Education and Science in the acquisition of sites for new school facilities.

The technical assessment of the site in question is currently in progress. A report on the outcome of that assessment, incorporating my office's recommendations, is expected to be furnished to the Department of Education and Science by the end of the month. Entry into formal negotiations on any site for this programme can only take place with the Department's approval as to the site's suitability for purchase.
