Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

289 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason he has not appointed a consultant microbiologist to Tralee General Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28494/01]

Responsibility for the provision of services at Tralee General Hospital rests with the Southern Health Board. My Department does not have an application from the board for financial clearance for the creation of a consultant microbiologist post at Tralee General Hospital. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the board to examine the matter raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him.
