359 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the building allocation by his Department to Fingal and South Dublin County Councils; the number of dwellings built or under construction by the councils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28559/01]

360 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of council dwellings allocated by his Department to Fingal County Council and South Dublin County Council for each of the past ten years; the number of dwellings actually built by these councils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28560/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 359 and 360 together.

The allocations of housing starts to Fingal County Council and South Dublin County Council from 1995 to 2003 are set out in the following table. Due to reorganisation of the administrative areas of the county councils in 1994, it is not possible to supply figures that relate directly to the areas of Fingal County Council and South Dublin County Council prior to 1995.

The housing statistics bulletins that are published on a quarterly basis by my Department contain details of the number of houses commenced in each quarter as well as details of the number of houses in progress and completed. Copies of these bulletins are available in the Oireachtas library.

361 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number on waiting lists for council housing in Fingal and South Dublin County Councils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28561/01]

According to the last assessment of local authority housing needs, which was undertaken in March 1999, the number of households on the housing lists for Fingal County Council and South Dublin County Council was 1,274 and 2,396, respectively.

The next assessment of housing needs will be undertaken in March 2002.
