Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Children At Risk Programme.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

451 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding an application by Ballybeg Community Development Authority and the Ballybeg Special Youth Project for funding under the children at risk programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28503/01]

My Department has received an application for funding under the fund for the development of targeted educational responses to certain children at risk from Ballybeg Community Development Authority and the Ballybeg Special Youth Project.

As the Deputy may be aware, this fund is the responsibility of my colleague, Deputy Hanafin, Minister of State at my Department. The amount available under the fund is £1 million. A large number of applications has been received. A departmental committee met on 24 October 2001 and on 1 November 2001 to assess applications. Applicants including the one referred to by the Deputy will be advised of the decision in respect of their projects as soon as possible.
