Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - Education Programmes.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

491 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress to date in implementing the exploring masculinities programme; the situation regarding the implementation of the programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28879/01]

Information on the exploring masculinities programme was disseminated to schools through the transition year support service, as part of its in-career development programme for transition year co-ordinators. By the end of the school year 2000-01, approximately 150 co-ordinators had participated in this inservice programme, which included a presentation on the exploring masculinities materials. At my request, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, NCCA, is carrying out a review of the programme. I understand the council expects to consider a report arising from the review at its meeting in February 2002, and I expect to receive a copy of the report following that meeting. I hope this report will enable me to make further decisions regarding the implementation of the programme.
