Question:

150 Mr. McGrath asked the Taoiseach the number of foreign owned manufacturing companies operating here; and the total number of employees in these companies. [28764/01]

The most recent published figures from the census of industrial production are for the year 1998, when there were 653 foreign-owned enterprises with a total of 115,514 persons engaged. In 1999, it is estimated that there were about 620 foreign-owned enterprises with an estimated 122,000 persons engaged. Full details for 1999 will be published before the end of this month.
