Vol. 544 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Directives.

Nora Owen

Question:

151 Mrs. Owen asked the Taoiseach the EU directives relevant to his Department which are awaiting implementation; the nature of the directives; when each was passed by the Council of Ministers; the date for implementation; if the Government sought a derogation; if so, the date of such derogation; if he will meet the deadline as required; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28853/01]

As I explained in my reply to Question No. 97 of 8 May 2001, where my Department is concerned, there are a number of directives which require the provision of statistics by the Central Statistics Office, which comes under my Department's aegis. There is no obligation to transpose these directives into national law. However, statutory instruments have been made under the Statistics Act, 1993, when considered necessary to collect the data needed to ensure compliance with the relevant directive.

Question No. 152 answered with Question No. 101.
