Question:218 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if the meal allowance for student nurses at University College Hospital will remain at the amount of £47.16 weekly and not be reduced to £20 weekly. [29850/01]

Nursing students on the pre-registration nursing diploma programmes are entitled to receive free meals on a seven day per week basis. I have been informed by the Western Health Board that the manner in which the board meets the requirement to provide free meals to nursing students in its schools of nursing is currently the subject of discussions between the board and the unions representing the nursing students.
