Vol. 545 No. 2

Written Answers. - Legal Aid Service.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

141 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request the Legal Aid Board to open a clinic in the north Kerry resource centre in Listowel, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30102/01]

The Deputy will be aware that under the terms of the Civil Legal Aid Act, 1995, the Legal Aid Board has sole responsibility for the provision of legal services, including the location of law centres. I am informed that the Legal Aid Board has no plans to open a part-time law centre in Listowel at the present time. The board will, however, keep this matter under review in the context of demand for legal services and available resources.
