Vol. 545 No. 2

Written Answers. - Revenue Report.

Liz McManus

Question:

49 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Finance his views on the recommendations contained in the report of the Revenue Partnership Intensive Review Group on the Shadow Economy; if a timetable has been set for the implementation of the recommendations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29956/01]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the report is a product of the partnership process and a joint effort between management, staff and unions. It is a matter for the Revenue Commissioners to evaluate the recommendations contained in the report. I understand from the commissioners that the report contains some 50 recommendations aimed at improving tax administration so as to deal more effectively with the shadow economy. As pointed out in the preface to the report, the implementation of many of the recommendations is already in train under the programme of organisation restructuring in revenue that inter alia will focus on areas such as large cases, prosecutions and improved operations policy and evaluation. The remaining recommendations are being evaluated within Revenue and any recommendations to be implemented will be included in Revenue's business plans.
