Vol. 545 No. 2

Written Answers. - Job Initiative.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

64 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the changes she is considering to the jobs initiative scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [30082/01]

A new high supports process is currently being finalized by my Department in consultation with the social partners. The new process is intended to target and provide an enhanced level of support to those participants currently on job initiative, community employment programmes, and those job seekers identified as having severe employability barriers to getting or keeping a job in the open labour market.

As provided under the PPF, an overall review of active labour market programmes is to be undertaken, and discussions in this regard have recently commenced under the PPF standing committee on the labour market. Future policy direction of active labour market programmes such as job initiative will be further informed by the outcome of this process.
