Vol. 545 No. 2

Written Answers. - ECOFIN Meetings.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

97 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the degree to which he has used his influence at EU council meetings to ensure maximum scope for each member state in regard to attracting investment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30185/01]

I attend meetings of the EU Council of Economic and Finance Ministers, known as ECOFIN. As the Deputy will appreciate, the framework within which member states participate in ECOFIN and the way in which decisions are agreed at ECOFIN are subject to the provisions of the treaties. In that regard I assure the Deputy that in my participation at ECOFIN I am always active in promoting and defending Irish interests, including on issues pertaining to investment.
