Vol. 545 No. 2

Written Answers. - International Investment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

103 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance if he expects the economy to continue to attract international investment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30191/01]

Ireland remains an attractive location for mobile foreign direct investment (FDI), with the factors which have underpinned significant inflows over the last number of years remaining in place. These include a young, flexible and well educated workforce, participation in EMU, access to the EU market and a pro-business environment, both generally and in terms of corporation tax and grant regimes. The slowdown in the global economy which is currently under way may result in some moderation in FDI flows internationally. In these circumstances, it is important that the economy remains competitive in order to be in a posi tion to secure further significant FDI inflows when the global economy picks up.
