Vol. 545 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water Scheme.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

133 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when Galway Corporation applied for a grant and extension of water mains for a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and when his Department rejected this application for funding to facilitate a water supply to the person. [30346/01]

A request to approve Exchequer funding of up to £80,000 for a water main extension to serve the dwelling in question was received in my Department from Galway Corporation on 8th October 2001. As the works concerned were outside the scope of the already approved Galway water conservation project, my Department informed the Corporation on 22 October 2001 that the funding request could not be approved. It remains open to the corporation to consider undertaking the works from its own resources.
