Vol. 545 No. 3

Written Answers. - Capital Grant Applications.

John Perry

Question:

145 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received a capital grant application from Ballymote community playgroup, County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30304/01]

The Deputy may be aware that, as part of the Government's child care initiative, my Department makes capital and staffing grant assistance available to childcare projects developed by community based or not for profit organisations through the equal opportunities child care programme, 2000 to 2006. No record has yet been received of a capital grant application from Ballymote community playgroup but I understand that a staffing grant application was received from the group on 2 November 2001. The application was forwarded to Area Development Management Ltd. for technical appraisal. I requested an update from ADM Limited, which confirmed that the technical appraisal will be completed in the near future and that the application will be referred to the programme appraisal committee for final appraisal. The project will then be referred to me for final decision. I hope this process will be completed soon, but, in the interim, it would be premature to comment further on the application.
