Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Initiatives Fund Service Related Project.

Richard Bruton

Question:

290 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason for the delay in proceeding with the grant under the initiatives fund service related project to Dublin Corporation; the terms of reference of the review he has sought; and the date the review will be completed. [30511/01]

Dublin Corporation was notified of the award of a grant in July 2001 under the initiatives fund – services related projects for the development of a portal to provide public access electronically to a range of services in the city. Since notification of the grant, it has become apparent that further work is required to explore how this project should appropriately complement other initiatives in this area. Accordingly, my Department has asked the centre for management and organisation development of the Department of Finance to carry out an early review of the matter. The review will examine the project on a number of grounds including how it fits in with the REACH initiative and any other relevant initiatives; in terms of costs what are the potential commitments to be borne by the public service – but particularly by Dublin Corporation; how the aims of the project can be carried forward.

Dublin Corporation has been informed of this position. The corporation has also been given the opportunity to provide further information to CMOD to assist in the project review. The outcome review will be considered by my Department as soon as it is to hand.
