Vol. 545 No. 4

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

Alan Shatter

Question:

368 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the position concerning the application made to him for funding for a replacement swimming pool for Dundrum Family Recreation Centre; if the funding required will be allocated as soon as possible; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30710/01]

Under the local authority swimming pool programme, which is administered by my Department, there are four stages in a swimming pool project. These, in order of progress, are preliminary report, contract document, tender and construction. My Department's technical adviser, the Office of Public Works, evaluates each stage and local authorities cannot proceed to the next stage of a project unless prior approval issues from my Department. Grant aid is allocated only when tenders have been received for the project and will be capped at the time of allocation.

The position in relation to the provision of the replacement pool facility for Dundrum Family Recreation Centre is that the local authority has submitted a preliminary report for the project and this is currently being examined by our technical advisers, the Office of Public Works. My officials will be in contact with the local authority when the assessment of this proposal is complete.
