Written Answers. - Physical Education Facilities.

John McGuinness

Question:

181 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if further to Parliamentary Question No. 784 of 6 November 2001, his attention has been drawn to the fact that Coláiste Eamann Ris, Callan, County Kilkenny applied to the building unit and his Department on 2 December 1999 for an extension to the school which would include a sports hall; if his Department are progressing this application; the stage the overall application is at within his Department; if the plans includes a sports hall; and the costs and availability of funds for this project. [31270/01]

The planning unit of my Department is currently in the process of determining the long-term projected enrolment figure of Coláiste Eamann Ris. This figure will not only identify the size of the sports hall to be provided at the school, but is also required by the school in order to complete an educational worksheet. A senior edu cationalist from my Department will then draw up schedules of accommodation based on this worksheet, at which stage; the extent of the additional accommodation to be provided will become clear. It is not possible, therefore, to estimate the cost of any future works at this early stage.
