Vol. 546 No. 3

Written Answers. - Aquaculture Licences.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

84 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he is processing applications for aquaculture licences for salmonoid farming on four separate sites from the same operator; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31659/01]

An application for an aquaculture licence and companion foreshore licence to produce salmon at five sites in Kenmare river-Bantry Bay by Beara Atlantic Salmon, currently licensed for three sites, is under detailed consideration by my Department. This is all being done in consultation with the applicant following the publication of an environmental impact statement and consultation with the public and statutory consultees. A decision will be made on the application in due course.

Notice of the decision will be published in a local newspaper and in Iris Oifigiúil. An appeal against that decision can be made to the independent aquaculture licences appeals board within the period of one month after publication of that notice.
