Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Prison Building Programme.

Tony Gregory

Question:

231 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider the funding of a sculpture feature as part of the major renewal of Mountjoy Prison as proposed by local residents for a site on the adjoining Royal Canal; and if his Department officials will meet residents to discuss this matter as part of the consultation process. [32391/01]

As the Deputy is aware, officials of the Prison Service have met on several occasions with local residents in relation to the redevelopment of Mountjoy Prison. I will consider any proposal put to me by the local residents. To date, I have not received any proposal of the kind referred to by the Deputy. Prison Service officials are available to meet local residents at the latter's request provided they are given reasonable notice.

Question No. 232 answered with Question No. 16.
