Vol. 546 No. 5

Written Answers. - Retirement Gratuity.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

278 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied) in County Galway is not entitled to the same retirement gratuity benefits as given to retired teachers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32208/01]

The retirement gratuity of the person in question was correctly calculated, by the awarding authority, by reference to his pay and service on his last day of service. Since the post from which he retired was not that of a teacher I regret the provisions that applied to teachers cannot be extended to him.
