Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Services for the Elderly.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

487 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Health and Children when he will provide capital funding to the Western Health Board for the provision of a home for the aged on its site at Ballinasloe, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1172/02]

The provision of a community nursing unit in Ballinasloe is a priority of the Western Health Board and it is expected that progress will be made within the framework of the national development plan which runs up to, and including, year 2006.

In the area of services for older people within the Western Health Board, the next major capital project to be undertaken would appear to be the provision of a rehabilitation unit at Merlin Park. In the circumstances, it is not possible to give an indication, at present, when the Ballinasloe project will get under way.
