Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Liz McManus

Question:

488 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to practice in the Cork Orthopaedic Hospital of tying children in their beds and cots; if he has satisfied himself as to whether this is appropriate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1196/02]

My Department has made inquiries with the administrator, St. Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Cork, and he is not aware of the practice to which the Deputy is referring having taken place in the orthopaedic hospital. Responsibility for the delivery of health services in Cork rests with the Southern Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the matter further and to reply directly to the Deputy.
