Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Staffing.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

659 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will sanction the required additional staff for St. John's Hospital, Enniscorthy, County Wexford. [2457/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services in Wexford rests with the South-Eastern Health Board. I understand from the South-Eastern Health Board that the Labour Court has brokered an agreement between the board, the Irish Nurses Organisation and SIPTU in relation to the staffing of St John's, Enniscorthy. The board has informed me that arising from this it is their intention to recruit an additional 16 staff in St John's in 2002. My Department provided additional revenue funding of 8.605 million to the South-Eastern Health Board in 2002 in respect of services for older people. This was on top of additional revenue funding of £0.76 million or 0.97 million provided in 1998, £2.133 million or 2.71 million in 1999, £3.341 million or 4.24 million in 2000, and £5.819 million or 7.39 million in 2001.
