Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

916 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Garda authorities have reported on the matter raised in Parliamentary Question No. 154 of 31 January 2001. [1183/02]

I have recently been informed that the Garda authorities do not consider it appropriate for the Garda Síochána to comment on whether any report or information was or was not passed to another agency. I regret that I have not been in a position to respond to the Deputy on the matter before now.

Tony Gregory

Question:

917 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 288 of 27 November 2001, the discos which continue to operate every Saturday evening at the premises referred to are now licensed. [1185/02]

I am informed by Garda authorities that as a result of investigations by the Garda, it has been established that the premises referred to in the Deputy's question does not have a public dance licence, music licence or a singing licence, and that discos are continuing to be held at this premises. This premises is to be prosecuted for having none of the above mentioned licences. I am assured by the Garda authorities that gardaí at Whitehall will continue to monitor the situation and prosecutions will be taken in the event of any continued breaches of the relevant legislation.
