Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Question:

1222 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to parliamentary Question No. 176 of 29 November 2001, he will indicate the progress which has since been made on providing alternative transport arrangements for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [1743/02]

My Department sanctioned the provision of a taxi service for the person in question in December 2001 to be shared with one other pupil. My Department also approved an escort for the service.

However, I understand that the taxi service which was originally put in place is no longer available. Bus Éireann, which operates the special school transport service on behalf of my Department, is urgently trying to arrange an alternative service. Every effort is being made to arrange a replacement service as quickly as possible.
