Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Willie Penrose

Question:

1254 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has given consideration to the appointment of a resource teacher to a school (details supplied); if he will ensure that such an appointment is considered favourably; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1980/02]

My Department approved resource teaching support to cater for the special needs of one of the children in question on 14 August 2001. The school authorities have confirmed that this support has been in place since September 2001.

My Department did not receive an application for similar support in respect of the second child. I understand that this child is in receipt of additional support from the school's learning support teacher.

A copy of the psychological report submitted by the Deputy in respect of the second child has been referred to my Department's inspectorate for consideration. My officials will be in contact with the school authorities following receipt of the inspectorate's report.
