Phil Hogan

Question:

79 Mr. Hogan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of times she used the services of fishery protection aircraft on occasions for which the use was sanctioned; and the total cost and outlay of all trips involved. [3355/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 70 and 79 together.

I used the Casa fishery protection aircraft on seven occasions since 1 July 1997 to fulfil official engagements outside Dublin. I am informed by the Department of Defence that systems and resources are not in place to cost individual flights. Costs are estimated on a direct cost per flying hour basis. The latest direct cost per flying hour is £710, €901.51, as computed on 29 February 2000. On that basis, the total cost of all flights taken by me in the aircraft in question amounts to €8,038.50, £6,330.83.
