Vol. 547 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fisheries Protection.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

71 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will withdraw eviction notices and assure security of tenure in fishing rights to angling interests on State properties on the Laune and Flesk rivers in Counties Donegal and Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3611/02]

Under the Fisheries Acts the regional fisheries boards have the statutory function of ensuring that any fishery in their possession or which is placed under their care and management by the Central Fisheries Board is managed, conserved, protected and developed in accordance with development plans for inland fisheries. The boards are also statutorily obliged to have regard to the particular role and contribution of angling clubs and associations in the sustainable management and development to the public benefit of State, public and other inland fisheries in their fisheries regime. I am asking the South-Western, North-Western and Northern Regional Fisheries Boards to contact the Deputy directly in this matter with a view to providing him with information in relation to the specific fisheries in question.

Question No. 72 answered with Question No. 53.
