Question:

69 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the maximum amount of grant aid he will allocate to Bantry Harbour Board in 2002 to enable the harbour board to proceed with the new pier as soon as possible. [3597/02]

Some €40.1 million is available under the infrastructure measure of the Southern and Eastern Regional Operational Programme of the national development plan for investment in seaports infrastructure.

A total of 38 applications are under consideration, seeking grant allocations up to €78 million, including an application from Bantry Bay Harbour Commissioners for assistance towards the construction of the new pier referred to by the Deputy.

These projects have been thoroughly evaluated against the criteria specified in the NDP and final decisions are under consideration.
